Warts are a common skin condition where small growths appear on the skin, most commonly on the hands and feet. It's not dangerous, but it's unsightly and easily contagious. Warts are caused by a virus - human papillomavirus (HPV) - which comes in over 100 different types. More than 3 in 10 children have had warts and more than 1 in 10 adults. So you're not alone in having warts, but that doesn't make it any easier.
There are several treatments for warts. They can be cauterised, frozen and burned off. None of these are particularly comfortable, but may be preferable to waiting for them to disappear on their own.
Untreated warts usually resolve themselves within 1 to 2 years. After treatment, you may have scars and broken skin. When treating warts, seek help from your doctor.
